Alfa Laval breaks ground on new Innovation Centre in Lund to accelerate technologies that will support the global energy transition
Today, 29 October 2025, Alfa Laval has officially broken ground on the Gunnesbo Innovation Centre in Lund, Sweden. This strategic investment marks a major step in Alfa Laval’s commitment to developing heat transfer technologies that will help drive the global energy transition. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the new state-of-the-art facility represents a significant milestone in Alfa Laval’s long-term commitment to develop solutions for emerging applications.
The new centre will strengthen Alfa Laval’s Research & Development capabilities to support energy efficiency and develop heat transfer technologies, fuel cells, and electrolyzer components – critical solutions for applications such as hydrogen, carbon capture, long-duration energy storage, and renewable fuels.
This investment will extend our innovation capabilities to a new level,” said Thomas Møller, President of Alfa Laval’s Energy Division. “The Gunnesbo Innovation Centre will be a collaborative hub where we push the boundaries of heat transfer technology, enabling solutions that reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and accelerate the energy transition.”
Once operational, the centre will house around 50 specialists and be utilized for prototyping, testing, and material research. The Innovation Centre will build on existing facilities and be located adjacent to the existing Gunnesbo Lab at the global company’s headquarters in Lund. The centre will feature rooftop solar panels to increase on-site electricity self-sufficiency, building on the company’s existing solar installations at other Lund facilities. The design also prioritizes workplace safety and modern, collaborative spaces to inspire innovation.
During the ground-breaking ceremony Jens Richter, Site Manager Alfa Laval Lund and Madeleine Gilborne, VP Energy Division was joined by Annika Olsson, Dean at Faculty of Engineering at Lunds University and Karin Sandström from the Business Office at Lund Municipality.
